Mark is experienced in working with people from vastly different backgrounds and ethnic origins. He relates easily with young people and their families/whanau.
Mark is related to Tim and Juliana Smithells. He lives in Hamilton with his fiancee and business partner Emily Donderwinkel. Mark and Emily share parenting of Mark's daughter Magnolia (Maggy)
Mark has a background in the sciences. He has 20+ years' work in hospitality, retail, and tertiary teaching. He has 15 years' experience helping young people with career development.
A drummer, Mark loves music. He plays hockey and was a Waikato age-group representative. He is a keen gardener.
Mark is enthused about his career planning work with young people. He believes in individual uniqueness. He aims to help each young person to greater self-understanding and to find their calling.
In 2021, Mark completed specialised training with Smithells®NZ in the use of the Smithells® Career Planning System.
Mark and Emily's business, Head Start Careers, is based in the CBD in Hamilton and shares office space with Smithells Careers. Mark provides services to clients from Hamilton and the Waikato.
